Professor Senaratne Ranamukhaarachchi received his Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture with a Second Class Honours (Upper Div) from the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka in 1978, and M.S. and Ph.D. in Agronomy (Cropping Systems) from the Pennsylvania State University, USA in 1983 and 1985, respectively. He was a Senior Lecturer in Crop Science at the University of Perdeniya until 2000. He was a Visiting Lecturer in Crop Science at the Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka during 1985-2000. In January 2000, he joined as an Associate Professor in the Agricultural Systems and Engineering Program of the School of Environment, Resources and Development at the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand, and worked until June 2012. He then joined the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Bangkok, Thailand as an International Consultant in Sustainable Land Management and served there until May 2014. During this period, he coordinated a regional project, “Land degradation assessment and monitoring for sustainable land management an climate change adaptation in South Asia”. He also served as a Consultant/Farming Systems Agronomist to the Ministry of Agriculture, the Fiji Islands during December 2014 to March 2015. He worked as Professor in the Department of Biosystems Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) from 2015 to 2017, and then joined Sri Lanka Technological Campus since January 2018.
