Diploma in Pharmacy practice provides students with fundamental knowledge and understandings of the professional emphasis areas in practicing pharmacy. They are supposed to help the qualified practicing pharmacist in the community, hospital and community pharmacies in our country. It is a well-recognized occupation which has professional recognition in most of the pharmacy and medical council in developed and developing countries in the world. Teaching and practicing area in the diploma courses held in many countries are related to the hospital and community pharmacy work. It includes learning of dispensing and compounding of medication, basis of uses and indications of drugs, health care scientific management, pharmaceutical prescription and technology applied in pharmaceutical care.
Like pharmacists, most pharmacy technicians are employed in community pharmacies and hospitals. However, they are also employed by or in clinics, home care, long term care, mail order prescriptions pharmacies and various other settings. Pharmacy technicians perform such tasks as filling prescriptions, packaging doses, performing inventory control, and keeping records. They will be working under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, who is legally responsible for their performance, until they get qualified with Sri Lanka Medical Council registration.
GCE (AL) Biology, Mathematics and Technology streams or equivalent qualification
Duration : 1 Year
At the end of this course, candidate will be able to sit for the National Examination for Pharmacist Certificate conducted by Sri Lanka Medical Council if they fulfill the admission criteria for the SLMC registration.
